Nobody knows when the first gal was photographed with a truck etc for a photo or magazine feature. The data on this is rather shrouded if available at all.
It’s believed that the first with a bikini and a hot rod was with the original Hot Rod magazine long before Petersen Publishing got ahold of it, and when Wally Parks, then publisher, later President of the NHRA.
For when ever it happened the Knytes of Anarchy, as our original forging of a home grown grassroots custom truck group as the Road Commanders Association following in the footsteps of the original Overdrive, with Mike Parkhurst in the drivers seat we thought we could do what they did. Of course that was the late 1970’s mid 80’s, things around here was much more relaxed and not as tense. Setting up a photo shoot with a ryde just done out of the shop or of a member took a scribbled note on skoolbook paper placed at the Polish Palace now the Snake River Grill, in Hazzard-aka-Hagerman .
If something more exotic was required , a holler to Boise and 10 or 15 gals that were truly hot would show up. Many not for money just the thrill.
Today that option is not as available or as easy as it was then. The only thing that remains constant is that there is no modeling agencies in the state, that can be truly called a modeling agency. More like a training skool with little training going past the walkway or mere print. Over the years we as a club have been lucky with finding 10 or so gals willing to go the distance. While I know that there are lovelies out there that could be cast, in our promo projects, I learned a long time ago, not to do two things, first not to dip my pen in the club ink, nor cast ad talent in the same neighborhood of which we either have a charter, or do business. While you and I know, fellow Knytes, that most if not all we do is as innocent as a squirrel frolicking in the trees, boyfriends, fathers, uncles and other significant males may not. These same male corpuscles, are the ones we pitch our shop talents to. If by some reason we insult them, they no do business with us. As such casting from a distance is a good idea.
However some in the city and county leaders departments might not. I have heard from many of them countless times, why didn’t you cast a local girl from here in that ad? Thing is, most locals here and abouts are to uppity or churchy, to do that. But I did hear of a resource and plan to investigate, but overall working with a pro agency is preferred. The next step?
That in a few more lightmiles.
Next entry, best be Mormon or Mexican or both to do business in Idaho, or look elsewhere.
