Why a radio station and how flying gets together with toewing

hakoa header AYREWOLFS BLAWG HEADER

So why a radio station? B4 I go today thought I’d let our new members and readers in on some things they might not know or had questions about.

The history of our club, most closely mirrors my own since I have been in the forefront of the club since it was conceived.

The reason we started a radio station is and was, in the forming of our organization few if any radio station or media wanted much if anything to do with us. Their minds were that who cares about truckers? More over some wyld side type haulers? Most if they did do anything was on the back of advertising we paid for. However, then in 1982 when Mike Parkhurst threw a fit and commissioned the first nationwide strike of owner operator truckers, the local media was on my phone so heavy we finally had to take off the handset so we could get peace. I tell most now, just like I did then , ya’ll didn’t want to talk to me or the club when we wanted you too, don’t call me now.

So frustrated we created our own station above the fish hatcheries in Hagerman (later to become Hazzard and ya’ll know why) Idaho, the first albeit pirate or outlaw (meaning no FCC License) radio station for and of truckers. If it was a program no other station wanted to air, we did. From Dr. Ruth to the Overdrive Top Ten Countdown, it was on our station. Long b4 there was Howard Stern, and somewhat after WolfMan Jack, there I was, as then the Dixie OutLaw(now AyreWolf) on our 50 watt station keeping truckers company, late at night and when we figured the FCC and other types were not tuned in. However one was. Dennis Conrad at then KLIX AM 1310 where I did a weekend show , found out about our station, called the FCC and we got a warning, either get legal or face a big fine. We got legal, so in 1977 , KTOW FM 89.1 signed on the air and the rest as they say is history. However , once we got to making serious cash, ad wise, and went from a none profit station to a paid ad type station we moved up the dial from 89.1 to 105.7.

As far as when I got into flying and how that connects to me toewing.

I’ll relate that l8r this eve, as my knee is in really bad pain and pain meds are kicking in so off to bed with me.

Still toewing and still love trucks

hakoa header HAZZARDAYRE PHOOTENOTES

Every once in awhile, someone will come into the world of ours that requires a redoux of the founding of both the Knytes as well as our parent organization the UITA. The United Independent Truckers Association started life as the TeenAge Truckers Association in 1974, as the only of its time 4-H truck Transportation group, of aspiring OTR truckers. The TeenAge Truckers Association was modeled after the original Independent Truckers Association aka RoadMasters Association that was created in part by my Dad as well as the then President Mike Parkhurst who also created the pioneering truckers mag, Overdrive. More on that in a future edition of HazzardAyre.

At the conclusion of the nationwide long haul truckers strike in 1982 at the time our Dukes-of-Hazzard fan club combination hot rod truck group got together, the group made as its mothership the Road Commanders Association, the only at the time super rig organization in the U.S.

Years after Mike decided to disband much of the founding ITA, but there were those of us that held true to what Mike started. So in 1985 at a long winded meeting at the Hill Top Truck Stop near American Falls Idaho, 4600 members of our group converged and created what is now known as the United Independent Truckers Association. Nearly 80,000 member strong today, and based in Salt Lake City Utah, the organization still fights for independent OTR haulers and yes us toewers nationwide. Of course this would not be complete unless I added this. In mid 2007 there became a movement by our regional group, to redoux our Hazzard County Knytes club. The Dukes had been off the air for some time by then although some of continue that legacy today, but DOH(Dukes-of-Hazzard) was gone. Yes Hollywierd had tried to do two movies of the Original series, but failed really bad. So as we figured it the frost was off the pumpkin. So we reformed, under the handle Rode Eagles Association. However something was brewing besides the day old coffee. After I had discovered many of our founding Knytes members had moved away from the area and the two that remained here near me, who drove truck we all met at Burns Brothers in Boise. After watching the hit bikers TV show Sons of Anarchy, we renamed our regional OTR group, the Knytes-of-Anarchy. Not to be a bikers club, but rather an organization to preserve trucking’s past and history an as well as fight for justice the smb owner/operator trucker and toewers. The word toewer, is misspelled here on purpose. Reason being as years ago, Bill Mack legendary trucker radio personality did some program liners or intros for our radio station KTOW , which is KAY-TOE(TOW). However as most do , he mispronounced the word tow like the word cow. One of my interns suggested respelling the words together, both toe and tow, together is toew.

Getting back on course here.

The Knytes-of-Anarchy is not, repeat not a bikers group, although there are some members who ride Harley’s, that said, like bikers, OTR truckers, love most of the same things. Open highways without a bunch of law enforcement on them to heed our drive time. Good food that is low cost. Cheap fuel, there’s more but ya’ll get the idea. As we said it then and say today.

Truckers ARE bikers with more wheels and a cab.

After 31 years , I’m still going toewing as much as I ever have, albeit today laid up after taking a beating on my knee past eve on a toew. I still own and operate one of in fact the REAL love of my life , LexiBelle, the truck I started with. Along with 8 others, here in Rupert. Check out our profile on www.manta.com

Today the Knytes-of-Anarchy and its parent organization the United Independent Truckers Association operates 12 regional radio stations for and of the American independent trucker. We publish the printed version of HazzardAyre , and I do my radio gig, HazzardAyre Radio. Which is part of the original Dixie Diesel Truckers Radio Network, and oh yes KTOW still operates in Buhl Idaho on 105.7 FM.

How the idea of flying and toewing got together in our next edition.

Did Ya’ll Hear?

HAZZARDAYRE PHOOTENOTES AT HEADER

Did Ya’ll hear? KBSU AM 730 in the morning will be KINF AM 730, yep BSU sold their NPR station to one of KTRV’s guru’s and a whole new hearing experience is up on the ayrewaves. Thing is, looking at the new schedule, is Boise ready for radical radio? Perhaps. but if history recalls Boise, while slightly out of the box to begin with, is still Idaho and styll looking to discover the 21st Century.

Looked up KBAR’s web site. Know what they aint got one. Makes ya’ll think, maybe instead of just buying time on KBAR, maybe we should buy the whole damn station. I’m thinking, if we did that, give the boot to Minton and Bell. Get rid of the satellite programming and have an ass kicker AM to compliment HazzardAyre KDXB FM. While FM licenses are out there, AM station licenses aren’t . So many wanting to snag AM listeners , are buying AM stations that are tiny or are at a bargain. Considering the buy of KBSU, did you know that BSU sold their AM 730 station for just $170 K? That’s like buying milk on sale at Wal-Mart. Wish I’d have known that KBSU was for sale.

B4 KBAR is, lets buy it.

Hey if I cain’t go toew, might as well do super radio, let the radio op , support going toewing. Rather than the other way around.

Now to go get relief for my arthritis hurting fingers and knuckles.

See you on the PM, when we’ll explore, giving the boot to the DAV/PSR.

AyreWolf still in the air

hakoa header AT HEADER

Wednesday I did something that I have not done in months even a year or two, I went to bed at 09:00 hours and did not get awakened until I got hungry and rose at 22:00 hours. I did not care about going toewing, flying, the clubs nor anything else, I flat took  a needed day out and off, and recuperated. The body feels better.

Fetching the truck Thursday, then looking at a few other things that need tending.

While I grabbed grub, watched a few old vids of life in Utah at our HQ there as far as what now is labled HazzardAyre Radio. If anybody thought that everything we did then as well as even now was bunk, or fake, they only watch these vids. We had and no salute to the normal Utah vision is made here, but we did have a beehive of e-commerce activity, long b4 ; E-commerce was a thought. Perhaps I prejudged Utah way too soon, maybe I left Utah way too soon b4 the incubation period was over to the clubs visions and mine. The fact that AyreWolf Aviation is still operational may have something to do with the fact that AyreWolf Aviation is still based and headquartered in UTAH, not Idaho. While the loss of yet another service shop facility in Idaho was a smack in the face and injured my pride, ego, and to a mere degree my self esteem, that does not mean I’m electing to bag Idaho just yet, but I will say that if the right noise came from Utah, leaking main seal on LiL Lexi or not, I’d be on my way to Utah.

I remember then, in late 2005 early 2006, when the plans were being made in Utah for Wyoming. I had an associate named Julie Macalister who looked at the proposed place in Wyoming and said don’t go there. Cuzzin Bud, Cuzzin Gordon, and several of the board of the club said , that the human, and other resources that Utah has will never be in either Idaho nor Utah. But I tried to believe and be positive and to be honest even once I had landed in Wyoming, namely Evanston, had I not been conned and dragged to Idaho by that little bar hopping drugged out tight butt seatcover that I came to know as Tammy there who managed Lotty’s there in Evanston, I’d have never left Wyoming. Even as bassackwards as Evanston Wyoming is, the location of Evanston to metro Utah at only 80 miles and 45 minutes away makes that sustainable.

So does this mean I’m bagging Mini Cassia Idaho for Utah or Wyoming? No, at least not yet , if I do at all. In fact the reverse of visions of things, I’m looking at life there in both Utah and Wyoming from what was, not what is. But with Rupert being as close to both metro Utah as well as Wendover and Evanston, does not mean , I’m not going to be sniffing around both locations to see , just what IS available there for what I can AFFORD there, B4 I bust a move.

In closing, I will make the judgment call here , that the Reason, AyreWolf Aviation and the fact that AYREWOLF is still operational, is that it is in Utah , not so much Idaho.

Our next step? That in the next entry.

Stay Tuned.

Sometimes what your really looking for does not exist

HazzardAyre Mini2 Cooters phootenotes header

This could take several different paths, but all have a distinct arrival points.

The girl many of us Confederate male corpuscles, might be someone that looks like Gretchen Wilson (country music star) or Carrie Underwood, with the determination and all attributes of Daisy Duke. However finding that kind of person is no doubt going to get the same results, slim and none. Most of us settle for somewhere there, but not the exact person.

In our case, as far as our beloved dream shop, looking for a shop that costs no more than a couple hundred bucks a month, yet has enough room and garnishments or accessories that would include something as simple as running water and a rest room, might be that illusive jewel in the desert that we want to have yet, in these days and times, and high rents and all just might , if at all, might just not exist.

Of course local taxation and such will determine the rent per month rate, and while someone holding property that is not being used by anyone else, and most likely wouldn’t be, to give someone a hand up, so they could get off SSI and other tax payer supported programs so they could make their own way is logical , remember Northern Union Yankees have no room in their head for anything that makes sense or is logical.

While just a few days ago, I was bubbling that we found utopia , here in the mini Cassia area of Idaho, was in fact just the mirage of water on a hot dry desert. It looked good, but when all push came to shuv, not real. So where does that leave us?

Move equipment to where I live. Bag LiL Lexi in favor of something newer, work up LexiBelle best as we can, outside, and when conditions allow, look at other more inexpensive locations if there are any, and just fly as best as we can.

Sure the blow of loosing another shop kicked the crap out of my ego and pride, but like many in these US-of-A states, with Obamabeenlyin in charge and a debt ceiling that is way over the top. The economy simply is not able to sustain much spending if any at all. Surely not high dollar spending. So we tighten our belts, pull up our boots, and look at what we have as opposed to what we want to have and spend accordingly. Likewise while we might want to have a service shop, our income is not where it needs to be. The legal fall out of the Montgomery Foundation on its court proceedings is still at minimum a year away from being settled on our behalf. So again run the toew service from the house, run AyreWolf Aviation from American Falls as we planned anyway, as well as from Bountiful SkyPark, in Utah.

Sure back at the lift off point of our company and SAMCRO back in the day of the Dukes-of-Hazzard, a shop could be rented for a couple hundred bucks a month and made a damn good living . Today both are just not there.

Now if I could only find MY Carrie Underwood with Daisy Duke grit.

Down but not out, told ya’ll ya couldn’t trust no damn Yankee

hakoa header AT HEADER

I told ya’ll ya couldn’t trust no damn northern Union Yankee. Got this phone call from the guy who is renting us space. Sezz he wants more money for what we intend on doing there. Told him, no way. Even though I have a signed lease and all, saying we pay what we pay, he wants to redoux things. Okay fine. If market conditions were better, if the facility had more bells and whistles, and all I might be inclined to continue right where everything is at, but remember this is Burley and yes that is Idaho. Which means shit is going down the chute faster than Boss Hogg eating a chitlan pizza. I have seen , or is that saw? All too many business’s start off like gang busters and go into the toilet, because of over spending thinking things like money is just going to roll in , rather than the usual trickle, that is usually the case.

So move truck to house, run Cooter’s Toewing from where I live, get my things in order, and re-evaluate in a year or two. If something pops up, mid spring in either Wyoming or western Utah meaning Wendover, I’m outta here. In the meanwhile look over what just might be in eastern and southeastern Idaho, down where my real kin folk live. Say Montpelier, Soda Springs or perhaps Grace.

Also in the meanwhile, do my best for AyreWolf Aviation as well as HazzardAyre both newspaper as well as radio. And try not loosing my mind in the process.

Besides learning to not do one damn thing without an attorney, and a serious legal agreement signed sealed and filed, doing business with either someone that is LDS, or doing business with someone that is a northern union Yankee, is just not something this old Confederate Marine is doing again.

There are many people saying we are pulling out of the early 2000 depression. That the economy is about to catch fire. Bullshit. As long as we have Yankees in both the U.S. Congress and Senate, as well as just doing business with them here at home, the economy is going to continue to tank. And one of the worst quagmires of that sinking in economic quiksand, is Idaho. More people are finding an exit light out of here, than ever before. Even my shrink, pulled out and headed to Montana. But at least we still have AyreWolf.

That in my next entry.
