The rules of engagement as far as going toewing are changing, by the month in Idaho at least and all over the region , state and local , both county and city regs are getting tougher to meet.
It was once upon a time in Idaho at least, all one had to do to go toew was a good solid truck, impound yard and be insured, and have a basic clean driving record. Today , although many local cops have no idea of what or what not a certain toew truck can do or not do.
Even so there are conditions where the old skool trucks can and do have their place, and can far out perform any of the newer toew trucks, that are set up to basically just snag, and toew. Newer rigs with none split booms, auto transmissions and crank driven hydraulic pumps just will not pull and recover like the old standard tranny, shaft driven PTO mechanicals, like LexiBelle.
When Holmes built the 500 , the 500 was never intended to be mounted on a truck with less than a 20,000 GVW frame. Most were mounted on two and a half ton trucks. However in toewing, in many cases, its monkey see, monkey do. If one of us does it , others need to try it too. Thus in LexiBelle’s case , there is more toew unit than there is truck. Yet in all but a few rare instances, LexiBelle has came through with flying colors, still meets industry standards, albeit for want of cosmetics, and even a sling, with a mechanical wheel-lift.
If your side business is a hot rod shop, it makes sense to have a toew truck or two that is era or time as that of what your building for customers. It’s easy to buy a new truck, splash a paint job on it and while acceptable, if you show up in a fully restored custom toew truck that is if the same vintage as your customers muscle car, the visual at least to your customer is, “ If he can do that to a old toew truck, imagine what he can do to my vintage hot rod” Thus the confidence factor is increased. There are those that will crush old rides just for the metal weight income. Or because some EPA inspections says can’t run this any more. Yet such industry organizations such as SEMA have been and continue to fight in the vein, of don’t crush em, restore em.
Chrysler through its promotion ads for new cars and such are saying imported from Detroit. Old vintage Detroit iron, will never be replaced by these tin, econo boxes from Japan. As such , as an organization that began as a muscle car/trick truck club, the Knytes-of-Anarchy, says the same things. Don’t crush em, restore, customize and enjoy em. Like wise lets import as well as export Detroit iron. Buy American , drive American, muscle, not wimpy Honda’s with glass packs that sound like a sheep with the farts. Nothing from the Japs, Spicks, or Germans will ever sound as sweet as an American fully bored V-8 High cube muscle engine. So what it costs $300.00 to fill the tank? I’d rather do that than drive an econo box. Added to that, I’d much rather take my chances in a all steel bodied truck or American muscle car, than these part plastic composite/part tin Jap wagons. Plus let’s see a Jap econo box, last 1,million 600,000 miles like LexiBelle has.

Is going up, wuzz $4.50 a can, now its $4.65 a can . Damn near what a gallon of go fluid is costing these days. Any time it costs more to haul it from point A to point B. More over the raw ingredients.
These days truckers are catching hell from both increased enforcement of speed laws to fuel. Not only OTR truckers but us toew truckers, 
Heck , even me. With fuel going up feeding our trucks, I’m considering increasing my rates from my usual $35.00 to $45.00 plus my out of area charges from $2.00 per loaded mile one way, to $2.50 both enroute plus loaded mile. I’m still the cheapest hooker in Idaho, but here lately ya’ll gotta do what ya’ll got to do to eat and keep ones head above water.
