Our Rose of Cimarron

new hazzard ayre hedder_thumb[2]

First this morning, as my brain drains to hit the rack I’m convinced there’s a gremlin, that steals my graphics from my computer. Seems every time I look for a pic, it moved. So got to go redo it, then come back and try to remember what I was going to blog about.

Okay then, met someone over the weekend, no not that kind of meet, so get that outta yer heads, but a devoted fan of things Hazzard. Mainly Enos. Without giving anything away, will tell ya’ll things I usually don’t need to repeat but for the benefit of my new friend I will.

The club, The Knytes-of-Anarchy was created in 1982, as then, the Hazzard County Knytes(Knights). The clubs name came from melding Hazzard County with the name of a popular movie at the time, called the Hollywood Knights. Both the Dukes and Hollywood Knights were of the anti-establishment, fight the system attitudes as well as a movie and TV show for us gear heads. Substitute Hoggs Hamburgers for Tubby’s Drive In and ya’ll get the idea.

The club was originally created by 15 loyal and dedicated gearheads that loved the Dukes, and loved building cars, trucks, bikes and showing them off without the super polish and inspection that show rides who went to the ISCA World-of-Wheels series car shows. The club was also started I hate to say as a slight tax shelter for the then just opened real life Hazzard County Garage(now Hazzard County Choppers). I assumed the nick name of Cooter, since my life was mirrored by actor Ben Jones, on TV. Ben also did a brief shot as a revenuer in the Dukes pilot movie MoonRunners, of which I have a copy of.

Over the next few years , getting anything in or on our local media about the club was and is like pulling teeth out of a skunk, can be done but it sure stinks and you get bit a lot. So the club said to hell with that, and fired up its own radio station originally as KTOW but retired the call letters this past summer and took on the call letter KDOH, AM 10/90. KDXB FM 105.7. Bringing in many radio things the rest were scared of. From Dr. Ruth, to WolfMan Jacks Saturday Night Special. We did it. Not to be mean, but we believed in progressive radio.

Over the years the Hazzard County Knytes prospered, and grew from at first the original 15 members, to 100, then 1,000 to well over 150,000 members world wide. Mostly as associated members of most of the Dukes fan clubs which we were the original thereof combined with a group of kountry gearheads. In 1999, the love of old classic tractors got in the mix, mainly of those in green. So the club added a sibling called; the Deere Dazzlerz Association that had as President , famed head coach of the famed Utah Jazz Jerry Sloan, until we retired the sibling in 2007.

In 2000 after discovering some restored Corsairs in Jerome, the Hazzard County Knytes, created another offspring, called; The Hazzard County AyreWolvez, that remains today. Then in 2003 with the rise in popularity of custom big bikes, and with the birth of our shop, the Hazzard County Choppers Klub, was given birth. Remains as the owners of Hazzard County Choppers, Custom Shop, here in Twin Falls. Then in mid 2008, our President , Fred Roster of McCall Idaho, passed away. A examination of the strength of the club was conducted, and the decision was made to rework the club, but retaining our Hazzard County roots. At the time, the officers had a fast meeting in Glenn’s Ferry Idaho, we saw a TV show called the Son’s Of Anarchy, reworked it and the Knytes-of-Anarchy was born. Mostly because we who are devotees of classic old big rig over the road trucks and tow trucks, concluded that we are like bikers, only we have more wheels. But make no mistake, The Knytes are still today the most devoted Dukes-of-Hazzard fans and enthusiasts that you’ll ever find.

As I head for bed once again, our new friend, is a publicist by trade, and I asked her to be mine as well as that of HazzardAyre.

Well I’m off, going to go read my bible then snooze, reading 2nd Corinthians, 6  verses 10-16.
